What affects the cost
Block type
Standard concrete blocks are cheapest; tumbled, permeable and clay pavers cost more per m².
Laying pattern
Herringbone at 45° interlocks best under vehicle loads but generates far more cutting than a stretcher bond.
Sub-base depth
150mm compacted MOT type 1 for driveways, plus a 30–50mm sharp sand screed. Skimping here causes rutting.
Edge restraints
Concrete-haunched edging on every free edge — without it, the whole field spreads.
Curves and features
Circles, borders and contrasting soldier courses add cutting time and waste.
